How can I check my Sussex email and calendar on my phone or tablet? Use the Outlook mobile app. Before connecting your mobile device to your Sussex email account, you must set up encryption to ensure that University data is kept secure. Apple devices are encrypted when you set a pass code, and the same is true for most Android devices (to check your Android device is secure, follow this guide to encrypt an Android device).
IT Services recommends that you use the Outlook mobile app to connect to your Sussex email accounts and calendars.
Please see these guides to install and set up Office and Outlook on your mobile device:
iPhone guide
Android guide
Setting up your email account in the Outlook mobile app
- Install the Outlook app from the iTunes store or Play store
- Open the app. You will be prompted to add your first email account. If you have used Outlook before, select Add Account in Settings.
- Enter your Sussex email address.
- Follow the rest of the steps, entering your Sussex password when prompted.
You may be prompted to accept some additional security settings. These are to ensure that the data on your phone remains secure, and you will need to accept them in order to finish configuring your email account.
Setting up your email account on your iPhone
We don't recommend that you use the Mail app on your iPhone, but if you prefer to use this then please follow these steps:
- Go to settings
- Go to Passwords and Accounts
- Select Add Account
- Select Exchange
- Enter your Sussex email address
- Enter your password and follow the rest of the steps
Setting up a Staff account
Staff email is being migrated to the cloud. If you have been migrated, please use the instructions above.
Please install the Microsoft Outlook app from the iTunes store or Play store.
When you first run the app, it may find accounts that have already been set up on your device. If you see a screen that lists accounts, untick all the options and press the Skip option.
When prompted, enter your Sussex email address and press Continue.
If you see a Connect to IMAP screen, you will need to instruct your device to connect to Exchange instead. To do this:
- Look for a question mark icon
- Press this and then select Change account provider
- When you're offered a range of options, select Exchange
Enter the following details if prompted (you may need to press Advanced Settings):
Server: exchange.sussex.ac.uk
Domain:ad_us
Domain\username: ad_us\username
(eg,ad_us\ano123 )
Password: Your IT Services password
When you've added the account you may be prompted to accept some additional security settings. These are to ensure that University data remains secure, and you will need to accept them in order to finish configuring your email account.
